Best Agility CMS Alternatives in 2026

Agility CMS let marketers manage pages and sitemaps on a headless core before most rivals tried. In 2026 the free plan is gone, the first paid step is $699 a month, and the features above it are quote-only.

DXP Scorecard Analyst TeamReviewed Ratings updated 11 min read

The short answer

Storyblok and Contentstack are the strongest Agility CMS alternatives in 2026. Storyblok gives marketers a visual editor on published plans from $99 a month, well below Agility's $699 entry; Contentstack adds 20-stage workflows, field-level permissions and governed AI agents from $29 a month. DatoCMS suits media-heavy sites, Webflow and HubSpot Content Hub suit teams that want the whole marketing stack in one tool, and Sanity or Hygraph suit developer-led teams.

Key takeaways

  • Price is why most teams look. Agility replaced its free-forever plan with a sales-assisted proof of concept, and the first paid package, Essentials, is $699 a month billed annually with the same five-user cap. Growing past five editors means a custom-priced Enterprise contract.
  • The features a security review asks for are Enterprise-only: single sign-on, custom roles, a 99.9 percent uptime guarantee, 24/7 critical support and every data region outside the United States.
  • What you liked about Agility is rare. Sitemap-driven page management, Content Zones and native redirects are what most headless CMSs skip. Storyblok and Prismic come closest; Webflow and HubSpot Content Hub go further but are not headless.
  • Agility was never the whole marketing stack. It has no personalization, A/B testing, forms, site search or commerce. If you were paying a second vendor for those, HubSpot Content Hub or Webflow may replace two bills with one.
  • The content moves easily. Every platform here is API-first with structured content, localization and webhooks. The work is in rebuilding page templates and the Next.js or .NET front end against a new API, not in the content.

Our picks at a glance

Our analysts’ take

Agility CMS does one thing most headless CMSs skip: it manages pages. Editors create a page in the sitemap, pick a developer-defined template and add or reorder modules inside Content Zones, with Web Studio showing a live preview and click-to-edit on the real site. Redirects, URL slugs and SEO fields are built in. The service runs on Microsoft Azure behind a Fastly CDN with five data regions, its MCP server for AI agents has been generally available since June 2026, and support is well liked. Mid-market marketing teams on Next.js or .NET who are already on an Enterprise contract have little reason to leave.

The teams that look elsewhere mostly hit the price. The free-forever plan is gone, replaced by a sales-assisted proof of concept and a 30-day trial. Essentials costs $699 a month, billed annually with no monthly option, and keeps the five-user cap of the free package, so any real editorial team is pushed to Enterprise. Enterprise is also where single sign-on, custom roles, the uptime guarantee, 24/7 support and the Canada, Europe and Australia data regions live. Beyond price, Agility has no personalization, experimentation, forms, site search or commerce, its native AI stops at compose buttons and machine translation, and its community is small: open-source repos under 1,000 GitHub stars, SDKs only for JavaScript and .NET, and boutique partners in Canada, the US and the UK. Procurement will also notice there is no security event log and no accessibility report.

This guide rates nine destinations. Five are managed headless CMSs with visual or page-level editing for marketers. Two are developer-led headless platforms. Two are all-in-one marketing platforms that are not headless at all but replace what Agility customers were buying elsewhere. The ratings lean hardest on marketer self-service, because page management is what Agility customers want to keep, then on budget predictability, because a $699 entry price is why they are looking.

What to look for

  1. 1

    Pages, not just entries

Agility editors build pages from modules and manage the sitemap themselves. Have your editors create a landing page, reorder its sections and set a redirect in each trial without a developer. Most headless CMSs fail the sitemap part.

  2. 2

    A first step below $699

Ask what the first paid plan costs, how many users it includes and what happens at the limit. Several platforms here publish plans from $10 to $299 a month with user and usage caps stated on the page.

  3. 3

Security features on a plan you can see

Single sign-on, custom roles, uptime guarantees and non-US regions are Enterprise-only at Agility. Write down which plan carries each on every alternative, and get it in writing.

  4. 4

The marketing tools you buy separately

List what you pay other vendors for: forms, personalization, testing, search, email. Decide whether the replacement should include them, which points to HubSpot Content Hub or Webflow, or stay a content layer like Agility.

  5. 5

A front end that keeps working

Your Next.js or .NET site reads Agility's APIs. Check each alternative for a maintained Next.js starter, a .NET SDK if you need one, webhooks for cache invalidation and a preview that shows editors the real page.

#1Storyblok logo

Storyblok

Headless CMS
7.2/10
Fit score

The closest match for marketers who liked building pages in Agility. Editors click components on the rendered page and rearrange them, nestable structured content holds the model, FlowMotion automates workflows with approval routing, and hosting, delivery and assets are bundled. SCIM 2.0 arrived in May 2026.

Best for
Marketing teams with a development partner who want visual page building on published plans from $99 a month.
Watch out for
Single sign-on and the newer enterprise features are quote-only, releases often reach enterprise plans first, and the vendor has a record of forced platform changes.
What it costs
Starter is free; Growth is $99 a month and Growth Plus $349 a month, with usage add-on packs. Premium and Elite are quote-only.

#2Contentstack logo

Contentstack

Headless CMS
6.9/10
Fit score

The enterprise headless platform that publishes the plans Agility keeps behind a sales call. Workflows run to 20 stages, publish rules gate releases by branch, language and environment, permissions reach the field level, and Agent OS runs governed AI agents with every action logged. A .NET SDK is maintained.

Best for
Marketing organizations with approval chains and residency needs that want governance and an entry price published on the website.
Watch out for
No forms, personalization or commerce of its own, protected health and payment card data are prohibited by contract, and standard plans carry a 99.50 percent uptime commitment.
What it costs
Free plan, Build at $29 per month, Growth at $299 per month plus $25 per extra user; Enterprise quote-only. AI runs on metered credits.

#3DatoCMS logo

DatoCMS

Headless CMS
6.9/10
Fit score

A polished managed CMS for media-heavy marketing sites. Images transform on the fly through Imgix, Mux video is on in every project, localization covers more than 400 locales with fallback chains, Visual Editing arrived in February 2026, and ISO 27001 covers the platform.

Best for
Mid-market marketing teams on Next.js or Astro with an agency who want first-rate images and video and European pricing with published limits.
Watch out for
No SOC 2 report of its own, EU-only hosting, one project per site with no content sharing, and deliberately minimal native AI.
What it costs
Free developer plan, Professional at €99 per month, Scale at €199 per month, each with published limits and overage rates. Enterprise is quote-only.

#4Webflow logo

Webflow

Traditional CMS
6.9/10
Fit score

The benchmark for visual site building, for teams that want to stop running a separate front end. The Designer edits layout, classes and animations on the canvas, Edit Mode lets marketers build pages in context, and Optimize adds A/B testing and personalization.

Best for
Design-led marketing teams and agencies building brand and campaign sites who want the page, the hosting and the testing in one tool.
Watch out for
Not headless: rich text exports as HTML, there is no GraphQL endpoint, and content, components and interactions live in a proprietary format that does not move. Code export strips CMS content and locales.
What it costs
Published. Site plans from $15 per month, Premium at $25 per month (annual), seats from $15 to $39 per month. Optimize from $299 per month.

#5HubSpot Content Hub logo

HubSpot Content Hub

Traditional CMS
6.8/10
Fit score

The platform for teams that paid Agility and two other vendors for a marketing site. Content Hub sits on HubSpot's CRM, so landing pages, forms, email, automation, personalization, SEO and answer engine optimization come built in, with nothing to operate and published prices from Starter to Enterprise.

Best for
Mid-market B2B marketing teams running demand generation who want the CMS, forms and email in one bill.
Watch out for
A rigid content model built around the CRM, weak headless delivery, templates in the proprietary HubL language that are worthless elsewhere, and features gated by plan.
What it costs
Published. Starter from $15 per month, Professional from $450 per month (three seats), Enterprise from $1,500 per month. AI runs on HubSpot Credits.

#6Sanity logo

Sanity

Headless CMS
6.8/10
Fit score

The developer content platform with the deepest modeling here and nothing to host. Content models are TypeScript, Portable Text stores rich text as structured data, the Presentation tool gives editors click-to-edit on the real site, and the content store, image pipeline and Studio hosting are bundled.

Best for
Developer-led teams that want content as code with a free tier of 20 seats, and will build the editing experience marketers need.
Watch out for
Marketers depend on how well developers customize the Studio. Single sign-on, custom roles and the audit trail are Enterprise-only, and the SOC 2 report covers security only.
What it costs
Free plan, Growth at $15 per seat per month (viewers free), Enterprise quote-only. AI credits are published at $0.05 each.

#7Prismic logo

Prismic

Headless CMS
6.6/10
Fit score

The lowest-cost managed option with page composition for editors. Developers build slices, editors arrange them in the Page Builder with live preview, Slice Machine generates TypeScript types on every model change, and the Next.js, Nuxt and SvelteKit starters reach a working query in under an hour.

Best for
Small marketing teams on a modern JavaScript framework who want a simple page builder at a tenth of Agility's entry price.
Watch out for
No content validation at all, only two workflow states, US-only data residency on every plan, and an eight-locale cap that pushes multilingual sites to Enterprise.
What it costs
Free plan; Starter $10, Small $25, Medium $150 and Platinum $675 a month, each with published user, API and bandwidth limits. Enterprise is custom.

#8Contentful logo

Contentful

6.4/10
Fit score

The reference enterprise headless CMS and the deepest compliance file here: SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001:2022, and audit and API logs streamed to your own cloud storage. Four purpose-built APIs, official SDKs including .NET, and a remote MCP server generally available since July 2026.

Best for
Global marketing organizations running many locales who need ISO 27001 and streamed audit logs and have a developer team for the front end.
Watch out for
Only the $300 a month Lite plan is published; single sign-on, custom roles and workflows need an Enterprise contract. Salesforce closed its acquisition on September 1, 2026 without a published roadmap.

#9Hygraph logo

Hygraph

Headless CMS
6.2/10
Fit score

The GraphQL-native platform for teams whose Agility instance fed several systems. Every model generates a typed GraphQL API, Content Federation pulls remote REST and GraphQL sources into one graph, and projects can be hosted in the EU, US or Asia-Pacific on every plan.

Best for
Developer-led teams building Next.js, Nuxt or Astro sites who want one typed API over several sources and in-region hosting without Enterprise.
Watch out for
No page builder, scheduled publishing, custom workflows, custom roles and audit logs are Enterprise-only, and Enterprise runs from about $32,000 to $300,000 a year.

Headless or all-in-one: the choice Agility customers face

Agility sits in the middle: a headless CMS with page management but without the marketing stack. Leaving it means deciding which half you keep. Three paths cover most teams.

Stay headless, keep the page builder

You like the Next.js front end and want editors to keep composing pages. Storyblok, Prismic and DatoCMS ship visual or slice-based editing on published plans. Contentstack adds enterprise workflows. Your developers keep the front end and swap the API.

Stay headless, go developer-led

Your developers want deeper modeling or one API over several systems, and will build the editing experience. Sanity and Hygraph are the picks. Marketers get what developers build for them, so budget the editor work.

Leave headless for the whole stack

You were paying Agility plus a forms vendor plus a testing tool. Webflow puts page building, hosting and Optimize in one product; HubSpot Content Hub puts the CMS on the CRM with forms, email and automation. Both lock you in harder than any headless CMS here.

Questions to settle before you migrate

How many editors do you really have?

Agility's five-user cap on Essentials is what pushes teams to Enterprise. Count your editors, reviewers and occasional contributors. Then check what each alternative charges per seat and whether viewers are free, as they are on Sanity.

Which plan carries single sign-on and your data region?

Both are Enterprise-only at Agility. On the shortlist, Hygraph and DatoCMS host in Europe on self-serve plans, Storyblok and Contentstack publish mid-tier plans, and single sign-on ranges from an add-on to Enterprise-only. Get it in writing.

What happens to the sitemap?

Agility stores the page tree, URLs and redirects in the CMS. Most headless alternatives leave routing to the front end. Decide who owns the sitemap after the move and test that editors can still add a page and a redirect without a ticket.

Do you need .NET?

Agility is one of few headless CMSs with a first-party .NET SDK. Contentstack and Contentful maintain .NET SDKs; most others are JavaScript-first. If your front end is .NET, that narrows the list before any feature comparison.

Can you leave the next one?

Every headless platform here exports through its API. Webflow and HubSpot Content Hub do not export cleanly: Webflow strips CMS content and locales from code export, and HubSpot templates are written in HubL. Decide whether that trade is worth the bundled tools.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to Agility CMS?

Storyblok for marketing teams that want a visual editor on published plans from $99 a month, and Contentstack for organizations that need multi-stage workflows, field-level permissions and governed AI agents on a published plan. DatoCMS suits media-heavy sites, Prismic is the lowest-cost option, and Webflow or HubSpot Content Hub suit teams that want the whole marketing stack in one tool.

Why are teams leaving Agility CMS?

Mostly price. The free plan was replaced by a sales-assisted proof of concept, Essentials costs $699 a month billed annually with a five-user cap, and single sign-on, custom roles, the uptime guarantee and every non-US data region need an Enterprise contract. Agility also has no personalization, testing, forms or search, and its community and partner network are small.

Does Agility CMS still have a free plan?

No. The free-forever plan was replaced by a free proof of concept arranged with sales and a 30-day trial. The first paid package is Essentials at $699 a month, billed annually, with five users, 25,000 entries and 500 GB of monthly bandwidth. Enterprise pricing is custom. Storyblok, Sanity, DatoCMS and Prismic still offer free tiers that cover a small site.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Agility CMS with page building for marketers?

Yes. Prismic starts at $10 a month and lets editors arrange developer-built slices in a Page Builder. Storyblok's Growth plan is $99 a month with a visual editor that works on the rendered page. DatoCMS is €99 a month with Visual Editing. Webflow site plans start at $15 a month for teams willing to leave headless behind.

How hard is it to migrate from Agility CMS?

The content is the easy part. Agility's content, pages and sitemap are available through its REST and Management APIs, and every platform here has a management API or importer. The work is rebuilding page templates and the Next.js or .NET front end against the new API, and deciding who owns the sitemap and redirects once the CMS no longer does. Plan a few weeks of developer time.
