## The short answer

Choose SitecoreAI if you run a large marketing organization with many brands and want built-in personalization, testing, governed AI agents and a SOC 2 report. Choose Jahia if you need European data sovereignty, a self-hosted option, a vendor that hosts the whole website and the freedom to bring your own AI model. Both are quote only with annual contracts, and neither sells commerce. The choice depends on whether your procurement leans on EU residency and ISO 27001 or on SOC 2 and US-style assurance.

**Choose Jahia if:**

- You need EU-only, single-tenant hosting or the option to self-host
- You want the vendor to render and host the whole website, not just the CMS
- Your AI policy requires your own model, such as EU-hosted Mistral or a self-hosted one
- Logged-in members, partners or students need gated content and social login out of the box

**Choose Sitecore if:**

- Personalization and A/B/n testing drive revenue and must reach apps as well as the website
- Procurement requires a SOC 2 Type II report and ISO/IEC 42001 for AI
- A central team governs dozens of brand sites with shared components and brand kits
- You want governed AI agents and an official MCP server for Claude, Copilot or Cursor

## The differences that matter

| Area | Jahia | SitecoreAI |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Delivery model | Jahia renders and hosts the full website on Jahia Cloud, or ships Docker images to run on your own servers. | Sitecore hosts authoring and content delivery, but you build and host the Next.js or Angular website yourself. |
| Compliance | Company-wide ISO 27001:2022 and a published GDPR agreement, but no SOC 2 report, and Cloud terms bar HIPAA data. | SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001:2022 and ISO/IEC 42001, with a processing agreement covering GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA and Swiss law. |
| Personalization | jExperience, built on Apache Unomi, offers rule-based segments, scoring and A/B tests inside Page Builder, without machine learning decisioning. | Bundled real-time audiences, A/B/n tests, multi-armed bandits and machine learning affinity, now extended to apps and third-party sites. |
| AI models | Eight model options, including Anthropic, EU-hosted Mistral, Azure OpenAI and self-hosted models, with approvals enforced on every AI action. | Agentic Studio with 20+ agents and an official MCP server, but AI runs on Sitecore's Azure OpenAI with little model choice. |
| Ecosystem | About 50 GitHub stars, roughly 59 G2 reviews, no public Slack or forum, and talent concentrated in French-speaking Europe. | A large partner network, Slack, an MVP program and active practitioner blogs, though certified developers remain scarce. |
| Developer model | React and TypeScript modules render inside Jahia; the Next.js SDK is unsupported and outbound webhooks need Java code. | Content SDKs for Next.js and Angular, an official SDK-free guide for any stack, and webhooks on 18 content events. |

## Pricing & total cost

Both are quote only. Jahia publishes a plan comparison matrix and names its pricing drivers (edition, hosting model, users and traffic), but both plans end in Get a quote and the contract keeps prices confidential. SitecoreAI publishes nothing at all. Third-party estimates put its all-in annual spend at $75K to $500K or more, metered on visits, storage, bandwidth and builder seats.

Beyond the license, the cost structures differ. Jahia Cloud includes hosting of the full website, but meters bandwidth, storage, page views and profiles and bills overages, and renewals rise with inflation. Its support policy excludes performance tuning and database health checks, so keep operations skills in house. SitecoreAI removes infrastructure work, but you pay separately to host the front end, often $25K to $100K a year, and mid-market implementations commonly run $150K to $350K with a certified partner.

Over five years, the published estimates put SitecoreAI at roughly $375K to $2.5M before implementation and hosting. Jahia's total cannot be estimated from public data. A free AI-assisted migration and a free Open-Core edition lower its entry cost, but contracts renew yearly with 90 days' notice and no termination for convenience.

**What to ask Jahia:**

- Which Cloud usage metrics, such as bandwidth, page views and profiles, carry overage fees, and at what rates?
- Is jExperience personalization included in our quote, or only on the DXP Enterprise plan?
- What does the free AI migration cover for our integrations, and is the go-live date contractual?

**What to ask Sitecore:**

- Which entitlements for visits, storage, CDN bandwidth and builder seats does our quote include, and what do overages cost?
- What would a Scrunch subscription add to our cost if we want answer-engine tracking?
- Will you sign a HIPAA business associate agreement, and on what terms?

## Implementation & hosting

Jahia is a Java content platform that renders the website itself. Jahia Cloud runs dedicated stacks on AWS or OVH with a 99.9% availability commitment and customer-triggered blue-green upgrades, and the same platform ships as Docker images for self-hosting. Front-end developers can build views as React and TypeScript modules with no local Java, scaffolded in four commands. Backend extensions and event handling still need Java skills, and changing a content type after content exists means hand-written Groovy migration scripts. Self-hosted teams carry JDK 17, Elasticsearch 9 and a database, and support excludes server administration.

SitecoreAI is Sitecore-operated SaaS with a 99.95% delivery uptime commitment. There are no upgrade projects, but Sitecore sets deadlines teams must meet: Explorer was retired on short notice, and a September 2026 base image required retesting custom code. The website is a separate Next.js or Angular app, or any stack using the October 2026 SDK-free guide, deployed to Vercel, Netlify or your own servers. Templates and SXA (Sitecore's site-building framework) need certified developers, and practitioners put a move from Sitecore XP or XM at 9 to 14 months.

## Marketing & personalization

SitecoreAI gives marketers more. Page builder edits the live headless site with previews by language, device, audience and future date, and Design Studio generates new components from a plain-language prompt. Personalization and testing from the former CDP and Personalize products sit in the base license, with statistical significance reporting and auto-winner selection. Site collections, shared component libraries and per-site brand kits govern dozens of brands, and Content Hub supplies asset management with AI tagging and renditions.

Jahia holds its own on multi-site and localization. One instance runs many sites with local administrators, Local Site Manager pushes global pages to regional sites, and mandatory languages can block publication until translated. jExperience delivers segments, scoring, geo-targeting and A/B tests inside Page Builder without a separate CDP, but targeting is rule-based and there is no recommendation engine. The asset library is basic, and video comes from Cloudinary, Keepeek or YouTube embeds. Jahia does serve logged-in visitors natively with social login and gated content, which SitecoreAI leaves to your front end.

## AI capabilities

SitecoreAI is the more complete AI platform. Agentic Studio offers 20+ prebuilt agents, a no-code builder and multi-step flows, and review cards make a person approve each AI change. The Marketer MCP server (Model Context Protocol, the standard AI assistants use to call tools) lets Claude, Copilot Studio or Cursor build pages and check references before deleting content. Machine learning drives audience affinity, and ISO/IEC 42001 certifies the AI management system. AI use is not billed per token, but models run on Azure OpenAI and only image tagging can use your own provider.

Jahia's strength is openness. It works with eight model options, including Anthropic, EU-hosted Mistral, Azure OpenAI and self-hosted models, and every AI action runs through the content type's approval workflow and is logged. Page Quality Audit suggests titles, meta descriptions and alt text and shows token cost per run, and a community MCP server lets agents work within user permissions. There is no semantic search and no machine learning personalization, so AI helps editors more than visitors.

## Moving between them

These are different vendors and different architectures. Jahia renders pages from a Java content repository; SitecoreAI is headless SaaS with a customer-built front end. A move either way is a replatform: remodel content types, rebuild templates and components, and rewire integrations. Moving to SitecoreAI means building and hosting a Next.js or Angular site and rebuilding visitor login. Moving to Jahia means rewriting personalization rules for jExperience and replacing Sitecore Connect recipes with StackConnect or Java modules.

Jahia markets a free AI-agent migration that crawls a public site and rebuilds its pages, with a contractual timeline, which lowers the cost of arriving. Its Cloud terms give 60 days after termination to export data. Sitecore XP or XM customers moving to SitecoreAI keep content models, workflows and editor habits, but still rebuild the front end.

Teams that depend on self-hosting, member portals or single-tenant EU hosting should think hard before leaving Jahia. Teams that rely on machine learning personalization, a SOC 2 report or a deep partner bench should not leave SitecoreAI.

## Biggest Differences

### Where Jahia leads most

- **Free / Hobby Tier** (57 vs 15 for Jahia vs SitecoreAI): The free edition has been repackaged and is materially easier to run: Jahia Community (now 'Jahia Open-Core') ships exclusively as a Docker image from 8.2.3.0 — 'docker pull jahia/jahia-opencore:<tag>' then 'docker run -p 8080:8080' to a working instance — replacing the old Tomcat + JDBC install whose download page now 404s. It is permanent and commercially usable, and Jahia is moving its open-source codebase off GPLv3 dual-licensing toward Apache 2.0 (MIT for front-end components), which removes the copyleft friction that capped the prior score. Held below 65 because it is explicitly best-effort — less tested than the Enterprise release, no SLA or support, and it cannot install Enterprise modules — needs 4–8 GB RAM, and is self-hosted rather than a managed free tier.
- **Bring your own AI model/key (BYOM/BYOK)** (85 vs 46 for Jahia vs SitecoreAI): The supported model list is now enumerated at eight named options — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Mistral (EU-hosted), DeepSeek, Azure OpenAI, OVHcloud AI and self-hosted models — with Azure OpenAI and OVHcloud AI adding genuine sovereignty and residency choice on top of the self-host path, and switching models described as updating an API key rather than renegotiating a contract. Crucially this is corroborated at the implementation layer rather than only on the product page: Page Quality Audit takes AI_PROVIDER (anthropic, openai, deepseek) plus AI_MODEL and AI_MAX_TOKENS in its own .cfg, and the CKEditor 5 AI Assistant requires the customer's own OpenAI key. That combination of multi-provider choice, self-hosting and per-module key configuration is first-tier BYOK.
- **Managed site delivery & front-end hosting** (78 vs 44 for Jahia vs SitecoreAI): Jahia renders the full site (JSP or JavaScript Modules SSR) and Jahia Cloud hosts it on dedicated infrastructure with 99.9% production availability, blue-green upgrades, environments and EU/US/APAC regions, included with the Enterprise plans. CloudFront CDN is listed as an add-on and headless frontends are hosted elsewhere, which keeps it below 90.
- **Customer identity & authenticated experiences** (68 vs 38 for Jahia vs SitecoreAI): Jahia supports visitor accounts, login forms and ACL-based gated content natively, social login through the Jahia OAuth module (Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, GitHub, FranceConnect), SAML2 and OIDC federation, and jExperience maps authenticated profiles into personalization with privacy manager consent. Self-service portal pages and the OIDC/Keycloak modules are community-level, keeping it below 75.
- **Pricing transparency** (46 vs 25 for Jahia vs SitecoreAI): Jahia now publishes a real pricing page with a ~60-row CMS Enterprise vs. DXP Enterprise comparison matrix and an FAQ naming the three pricing drivers (edition, hosting model, users + traffic volume), plus full Terms & Conditions for all three legal entities and a Maintenance and Support Policy with a published SLA table — far better scope transparency than a bare contact form. But both plans carry only a 'Get a quote' button with zero published figures, and Cloud T&C 25.1 §9.5 states 'All pricing terms are confidential, and Customer agrees not to disclose them to any third party,' which also makes the aggregator ranges unreliable secondhand. Top of the entirely-sales-gated band, not into the public-lower-tier band.

### Where SitecoreAI leads most

- **SOC 2 Type II** (30 vs 88 for Jahia vs SitecoreAI): Sitecore undergoes regular SOC 2 Type II audits under SSAE 18 that cover the security, availability and confidentiality criteria, and SOC 1 Type II is maintained alongside them. Reports are available to customers on request. This is one of the strongest SOC 2 positions in the dataset, and only Salesforce Experience Cloud exceeds it.
- **AI-powered personalization** (25 vs 83 for Jahia vs SitecoreAI): Sitecore CDP and Personalize are native to SitecoreAI, giving a genuine ML personalization engine with identity resolution, predictive affinity traits (Top affinity condition, Feb 2026) and AI-assisted custom conditions (Mar 4, 2026). The Audience builder AI assistant (Oct 2, 2026, phased rollout) generates and refines audience rules from natural-language prompts, the Personalization insights dashboard (Oct 5, 2026) adds the performance analytics layer, and headless and event-triggered personalization (Oct 8, 2026, phased) extends decisioning to mobile apps, SPAs and third-party sites with up to six-variant A/B/n tests and dedicated dashboards. Below 85 because the ML engine is a separately licensed add-on and audience/component execution remains rule-based (AI writes the rules) rather than ML-driven next-best-content variant selection.
- **AI/semantic search** (30 vs 79 for Jahia vs SitecoreAI): Search experiences ship AI semantic reranking, fuzzy/typo-tolerant matching and boost/bury/pin rules (GA Apr 24, 2026) plus site-source crawling with sitemap discovery (Jul 10, 2026); Content SDK 2.4 (Sept 10, 2026) added typeahead via `/v1/search/suggest` and More Like This queries, and on Oct 13, 2026 that similarity retrieval became a marketer-configurable product with Recommenders, a search experience component that automatically surfaces content related to the page being viewed using the selected Source's inclusion settings and ranking controls. Brand knowledge in Stream is RAG over vectorized content via Azure OpenAI, and `llms.txt` is served from SitecoreAI configuration. Not higher because raw embeddings and vector indexes are still not exposed to developers as a RAG-ready content API, and semantic reranking layers on lexical retrieval rather than full hybrid vector search.
- **SDK ecosystem** (40 vs 85 for Jahia vs SitecoreAI): Content SDK for Angular reached 1.0 GA on Sept 10 2026, joining the Next.js/React, Remix and Astro adapters, the .NET SDK and the Marketplace SDK, and on Oct 7 2026 Sitecore published official SDK-free documentation (project setup, GraphQL rendering, Page builder visual editing, routing and multi-site) with Astro and Go examples so teams on other stacks can build their own integration. That guidance is not an official SDK: language coverage is still only JS/TypeScript and .NET, with no Python, PHP, Go, Ruby or Java SDKs, so the rubric's 6+ official-language bar is unmet and this caps at 85.
- **Agentic workflow automation** (52 vs 89 for Jahia vs SitecoreAI): Agentic Studio (GA November 2025) remains a production-grade agentic platform: 20 named prebuilt agents, a no-code visual Canvas agent builder, Agentic Flows for end-to-end campaign orchestration, Spaces for persistent team collaboration with execution tracking, App Studio partner-published agents, custom MCP connectors with OAuth, and in-canvas access from Page builder. Grounding improved again with Brand context (Aug 31, 2026) generating structured Markdown brand files, now enriched with daily-refreshed Scrunch AI Discovery files on visibility, audiences, competitors and cited sources (Oct 2, 2026), specifically so agents produce grounded, brand-aligned output, while in-chat review cards (Jul 3, 2026) keep a mandatory human-in-the-loop gate before anything is saved. Not higher because approvals are still chat-mediated rather than a policy-driven autonomy framework with per-agent permission scopes.

## Questions Buyers Ask

### Is SitecoreAI the same product as Sitecore XM Cloud?

Yes. SitecoreAI is the new name for XM Cloud, Sitecore's SaaS platform, which now bundles personalization, testing, site search and AI agents under one license. It is not the same as self-hosted Sitecore XP or XM: moving from those is a replatform with a front-end rebuild, which practitioners put at 9 to 14 months.

### Which suits a European organization with data sovereignty rules, Jahia or SitecoreAI?

Both offer EU hosting and GDPR processing agreements. Jahia adds single-tenant hosting on OVH France or AWS Ireland, a full self-hosted option, EU-hosted AI models and 60 days to export data after termination. SitecoreAI offers EU, US and Asia-Pacific regions with a contractual promise that data stays in region, but authoring cannot be self-hosted.

### Can Jahia or SitecoreAI pass a US enterprise security review?

SitecoreAI is the easier fit: it holds SOC 2 Type II, SOC 1 Type II, ISO 27001:2022 and ISO/IEC 42001, and describes a HIPAA business associate path. Jahia holds company-wide ISO 27001:2022 but has no SOC 2 report, and its Cloud terms forbid HIPAA-protected data. Neither publishes an accessibility conformance report (VPAT) for its editing interface.

### Which partners and developers can build on Jahia and SitecoreAI?

SitecoreAI has a broad partner network with a Diamond tier, major systems integrators, an MVP program and an active practitioner community, though certified developers are scarce. Jahia runs a Silver, Gold and Diamond program that includes Atos, Dept, Talan and ASI, but its talent pool sits mainly in French-speaking Europe and job postings are rare elsewhere.

### Does Jahia or SitecoreAI include ecommerce?

Neither has a native cart, catalog or checkout. SitecoreAI pairs with OrderCloud, a separately licensed Sitecore commerce product with little recent investment, or third-party engines through integration recipes. Jahia lists no commerce connectors, so product data arrives through StackConnect, a Workato-based integration service, or custom code. Commerce-first retailers should plan significant integration work with either.

### Which is better, Jahia or SitecoreAI?

SitecoreAI scores higher on overall suite capability (73 vs 62). Jahia wins 1 of the 10 scoring categories and SitecoreAI wins 9.

### Which costs less to own, Jahia or SitecoreAI?

Jahia scores higher on total cost of ownership (48 vs 40), which weighs licensing, implementation cost and running cost; a higher score means lower cost for what you get. Confirm current pricing with each vendor.

### Which is easier to implement and run, Jahia or SitecoreAI?

SitecoreAI scores higher on build simplicity (64 vs 55), which covers the learning curve, implementation complexity and how easy it is to hire for. SitecoreAI scores higher on operational ease (54 vs 52), which covers upgrades, day to day overhead and vendor support.

### Which is better for marketing teams, Jahia or SitecoreAI?

SitecoreAI scores higher on fit for marketing sites (78 vs 65), which looks at how well each platform serves campaign pages, landing pages and editor self-service.

### Which has stronger AI features, Jahia or SitecoreAI?

SitecoreAI scores higher on AI enablement (78 vs 57), which covers AI content creation, workflow automation, AI search and personalization, and how open the platform is to your own AI tools.
